Seth Meyers Tells GOP-Led Congress to "Be Honest" If They Won't Do Anything About Gun Control

Thoughts and prayers from our leaders aren't good enough.

After praising the brave acts of first responders during the Las Vegas mass shooting, NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers told Congress on Sunday to "be honest" if they have no plans to address gun violence.

Since Republicans hold the majority of both chambers, gun control has been repeatedly sidelined as the NRA continues its stranglehold on the party.

"To Congress, I would just like to say: Are there no steps we can take as a nation to prevent gun violence? Or, is this just how it is and how it’s going to continue to be?" he asked.

“If you’re not willing to do anything, just be honest and tell us, ‘This is how it is, this is how it’ll continue to be,” Meyers said. “If it’s gonna be thoughts and prayers from here on out, the least you can do is be honest about that.”

Meyers correctly observed that politicians often say the aftermath of mass shootings is not a time to talk about gun control when they  “really mean is there is never a time to talk about it.”
