Colbert Implores Trump to Break with Republicans on Gun Control

He said the president could succeed where others haven't.

CBS Late Show host Stephen Colbert opened Monday night's episode with praise for the brave people who helped saved lives amid the horrific terror attack in Los Angeles.

Then he turned his attention to President Donald Trump with a sincere plea for action.

“Do something the last two presidents haven’t been able to do: pass any kind of common sense gun control legislation that the vast majority of Americans want," Colbert said.

He explained this as a chance for Trump to "prove" he can be "a transformative president who doesn’t care about the way things have always been done in Washington."

The host reminded Trump that Republicans tried to prevent him from becoming the president and told Trump, "Screw ‘em!”

"[I]f we are facing ‘pure evil,’ then by all means offer thoughts and prayers," Colbert said in conclusion. "But think about what you need to do, and pray for the courage to do it.”
