Rep. Luis Gutiérrez, Immigration Reform Advocate, Won't Seek Reelection Next Year: Report

He is expected to announce the decision today.

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) will step down at the end of this term, according to a Monday night report from Politico.

Gutiérrez has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1993, where he worked as a vocal advocate for immigrants and routinely won his seat by giant margin.

President Donald Trump has been a frequent target of the congressman, specifically for the Trump administration's poor response to the crisis in Puerto Rico.

Gutiérrez is expected to announce his intention not to run for reelection and formally endorse Jesus "Chuy" Garcia for the seat today.
