Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson says he felt like a “spare part” on the show
Corrie’s Samuel Robertson, who plays Adam Barlow on the soap, has admitted he wasn’t very happy during his original stint on the show.
He first played the son of Mike Baldwin, grandson of Ken Barlow, between 2004 and 2007, but struggled with his place and his storylines.
But he says things are completely different this time round and he’s happy he returned. Phew!

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, the actor revealed: “The trouble ten years ago was that I was on the periphery and when the character was not that involved, it was hard to get momentum going.
“I don’t think myself or the show’s writers or producers had any idea of who this character was.
“I said to the producers and casting department that I felt like a bit of a spare part the first time around.”
Sam returned to the soap last year after Ken had a stroke and his family rallied round him. The rise of the Barlow clan also included the appearance of Ken’s son, Daniel Osbourne, who Ken hadn’t seen for years, and his other son Peter Barlow.
Fortunately, Sam’s much happier with his role now and feels more settled than ever.
“It was my fear again, but it couldn’t be more different this time.”
He continued to gush: “I’m playing him as charming as possible because at first I was unsure whether I wanted to play a character like that.
“It’s been fun, I’m enjoying it, I feel like I’m finally creating a character now which is great fun for me.
“I’ve been back a year now and it’s effectively a brand new character and production team. It feels like a brand new job.
“The first few months were just finding my feet. It’s been a pleasure for me as the people I’m working with are really well-established, big characters in the show, so it’s been good fun and really satisfying.”
He’s certainly making his mark on the Street this time around as he finds himself involved in all sorts of major storylines.

One of the main suspects in the ‘who pushed Ken Barlow’ case, it was eventually revealed Adam hadn’t been behind it, but that doesn’t mean he’s turned over a new leaf and become a good boy!
He’s currently scheming with Eva Price to help her take Aidan Connor for all he’s got, as well as trying to get compensation out of Robert Preston on behalf of Chesney over the ginger lad’s stabbing at the Bistro.
With his fingers in lots of pies, we’re definitely loving having him back – and it helps that he’s easy on the eye!
