Bad Reputation: Joy Behar Disses Taylor Swift on 'The View' for Trump Silence

The entire panel laughed in approval at her subtle criticism.

As The View panel discussed pop culture politics amid the CMAs' response to the Las Vegas shooting, one superstar seemed to earn a failing grade from the panel.

“Well, I think in these times that we’re living in right now, which are serious and difficult and dangerous because of the person in the White House, I think it’s incumbent on all good people to speak out if they can,” liberal co-host Joy Behar . said about the role of entertainers in contemporary culture.

Co-host Meghan McCain, a conservative, explained that many of her favorite country artists have been publically political. McCain asked Behar if she judged Taylor Swift, who refused to denounce Donald Trump during the 2016 election, for choosing to not take a stand.

“I’m not judging,” Behar said with deadpan delivery. “I’m just making a suggestion.” Then she pursed her lips as the panel burst out laughing.

Taylor Swift received criticism this week after she responded to an essay claiming that her work subtly supports white supremacists by threatening legal action against PopFront, the website that posted the piece. The American Civil Liberties Union is defending PopFront and issued a cheeky press release filled with lines from Swift lyrics about why free speech matters.
