Two suicide bombers killed in another foiled attack on UNIMAID
Kayode Idowu, Maiduguri
Two suicide bombers lost their lives during an attempted attack on the University of Maiduguri that was foiled by security operatives.
In a statement on Friday, spokesperson for the Borno Police Command, Victor Isuku, said, “On 6/7/2017, at about 2150hrs, two male suicide bombers were sighted and intercepted along the parapet behind the University of Maiduguri by joint security operatives deployed in the area.
“One of the suicide bombers was shot dead, while the second hurriedly detonated IED strapped to his body, killing himself, to avoid being captured alive.
“The command recently deployed a full unit of Police Mobile Force personnel, as well as guard and sniffer dogs in the university, to complement the presence of security personnel there. These deployments have started yielding the desired results.”
Isuku revealed that the Police EOD team was drafted to sanitise the scene and its environs immediately after the incident.
