DSS clamps down on kidnappers, bandits nationwide

The Department of State Services on Friday said it had recorded more feats in degrading the capacities of terrorists, kidnappers and bandits in different parts of the country.

The agency’s spokesperson, Tony Opuiyo, said this in a statement in Abuja.

Opuiyo said on June 18 that the DSS, with the support of men of the Nigeria Police, raided the residence of one Chidera Njoku at Umuagwu village in Ngor-Opkala Local Government Area of Imo State.

He disclosed that during the operation, the team recovered one locally made revolver, one locally made shotgun, 82 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition and one human skull.

He said as the investigation was ongoing on the discovery, the service also on July 5 arrested 27-year-old Rabiu Sani and 30-year-old Abubakar Sani along the Zaria-Funtua Road, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, for alleged kidnapping and gun-running.

The statement added, “On the same July 5, 2017, one Loveday Ogbonna, a native of Owoahiafor in Obingwa LGA, Abia State was arrested in Aba for his involvement in the kidnap of one Mrs. Viola Orji.

“Similarly, on June 29, 2017, Sunday Ene was arrested on Igbo-Etche Road, Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State for his complicity in the kidnap and murder of John Mbanugu on June 21, 2017, in the area.”

Opuiyo said the service remained unrelenting in its efforts to deal with any group or band of criminals who might threaten public safety or engage in activities that could undermine the ability of law-abiding citizens and residents to pursue their legitimate business.
