Police arrest 200 suspected kidnappers, cultists in Rivers

No fewer than 200 suspected kidnappers, cultists and armed robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command in Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state.

 The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed, who disclosed this while parading some of the suspects, added that operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring team also rescued an aged woman, who was abducted and raped by her captors in Rumuodogo forest, Emohua.

 Speaking with newsmen on Saturday, Ahmed explained that although the state had witnessed an increase in cult activities in recent times, the command had embraced security strategies to curb the manace.

 The state police commissioner explained that those apprehended and paraded at the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Rumukpokwu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area were smoked out of their various hideouts.

 He further disclosed that 10 armed robbers specialised in dispossessing car owners of their vehicles at gunpoint had also been arrested by operatives of the command.
