Watch This Ignorant Police Officer Explode After Being Told He Benefits From White Male Privilege

The officer whined that he found his colleague’s comment “extremely offensive.”

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that privileged white men don’t like to be called out for their white privilege, even when they stubbornly refuse to consider the difficulties faced by those less fortunate. That’s what happened last month in Indiana, when Captain Carri Weber of the Plainfield Police Department told a male colleague that he benefited from white male privilege. He responded by (surprise, surprise) exploding in indignant anger.

At the time of the incident, the two officers were at a police training session that focused on justice issues related to the transgender community. After the session’s facilitator revealed to the officers that transgender individuals are three times more likely to experience police violence than others during an interaction with law enforcement, the male officer objected with a question about “where that statistic comes from.”

“That’s not even accurate,” he said. “Because if you can’t have a basis for where the number comes from and what the situation is...are they more likely to be in this situation than somebody who’s not transgendered?...I’m just saying, my wife has never been part of police violence. Most of the people I know have never accused the police of violence. So I guess I don’t get where that statistic comes from.”

Weber responded, “Because of your white male privilege, so you wouldn’t know.”

The other male police in the room were notably angered by her comment. The same officer, outraged, shouted: “Chief, are you gonna let her get away with that?” He continued, sounding both very white and privileged, “Seriously? I’m asking a legitimate question here, and I’m getting taught white privilege? Are you serious? I find that extremely offensive.”

At the end of the video, he walked to the front of the room and continued to demand retribution for Weber’s “extremely offensive” comment as he talked over the police chief, who tried in vain to continue with the training session.

He later filed a complaint against Weber, claiming, "I was racially and sexistly slurred by Captain Carri Weber while I was asking a question of the instructor in training. I am now firmly aware of the discriminatory belief she just verbally communicated. There is no place in the Plainfield Police administration or supervision for someone who holds and espouses her discriminatory views."

Officer White Privilege got his way. Weber has been on administrative leave for nearly a month. According to WRTV, the Plainfield Police Board of Commissioners will vote on Thursday as to whether Weber will be reinstated.

In a time when police officers are allowed to remain on the force unpunished after shooting down innocent black men, it’s insane that an officer could be suspended for trying to educate her colleagues on police violence —especially considering the indisputable fact that transgender individuals suffer at higher rates from police brutality, as organizations like the Anti-Violence Project, The National Center for Trans Equality, Human Rights Campaign and numerous others have reported.
