The Chairman, Heirs Holdings Group, Mr. Tony Elumelu, has highlighted the importance of people and building strong institutions to attracting business investment in the country.

In his keynote address at the 2017 National Insurance Conference in Abuja, Elumelu noted that public sector executives must be actively involved in the repositioning of the economy.

While commending the efforts of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration at improving the business environment, he emphasised the need for managers in the public sector to be tutored on their role in making the initiatives effective.

“You must re-orientate the minds and disposition of the executive charged with implementing your vision. They must buy into it. They must begin to see themselves as enablers. They must realise the urgency of the moment and the need to quickly reposition our economy lest disaster of monumental proportions befall us all,” Elumelu said.

To achieve lasting results, he said executives must be willing and committed to the vision of the government.

According to him, advanced economies globally are created through consistent and deliberate investments in building and maintaining strong and transparent institutions.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Nigeria Open For Business’, he said that the legislative arm of government must prioritise laws that would boost investment and job creation.
