NDLEA arrests 42 Nasarawa drug traffickers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nasarawa State Command has arrested 42 persons for allegedly trafficking in narcotics in the state.

The state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Sumaila Ethan, who paraded the drug dealers in Lafia, Nasarawa State, said no fewer than 700kg of illegal drugs were seized from the suspects.

The NDLEA boss said his command had secured 39 convictions at the Federal High Court in Lafia.

According to him, the command’s aggressive counseling programme led to the rehabilitation of 171 drugs users in the state.

Giving a breakdown of the arrests, Ethan said one drug baron was arrested in Wamba Local Government Area of the state with 96kg of cannabis sativa.

He added that another one was apprehended in Tudun-Gwandara area of Lafia Local Government Area of the state with about 300kg of cannabis sativa.

He disclosed that two additional drug barons were arrested in Karu Local Government Area of the state with cannabis sativa weighing about 33kg and 38kg respectively.

“Our aggressive counseling progamme paved the way for the arrest of 171 drug users who were rehabilitated,” he said.

Ethan also hinted that the command had concluded arrangements to establish drug-free clubs in Nasarawa State Polytechnic and College of Agriculture, Lafia.

The commandant further revealed that some parents had voluntarily brought their children to the command for counseling.

 The commandant debunked the allegation that some officers set up their victims and warned that any personnel caught doing so would be arrested and prosecuted.
