How accused shared N18m loot – witness

Mr Patrick Ekowah, a witness in a case of alleged N18m fraud at a publishing company, on Wednesday revealed how a defendant, Adekunle Babalola, shared the loot.

Ekowah, an Investigation Police Officer, told a Federal High Court, Ibadan, that the accused gave part of the money to his father.

Ekowah said that Babalola transferred N200,000 to his father, N165,000 to an international travelling agency and another N500,000 to some of his other associates.

“When we conducted a search of his house, we discovered 18 different deposit slips, with which Babalola made his fraudulent transactions, and he confessed to the crime.

“His confession led our investigative team to arrest one Clement Ayobami, the second accomplice in the crime.

“His father also told us that the accused, who was his son, transferred N200,000 to him,” Ekowah told the court.

Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek, admitted in evidence, all the documents tendered by Mr Sunday Ekong, the prosecuting counsel, in spite objections raised by Mr L.O. Yusuf, the defence counsel.

Babalola and Clement Ayobami were arraigned on a two-count of conspiracy and stealing of N18m at the Ibadan branch office of Merro Publishing Company in 2016.

Abdulmaleek adjourned the case until Oct. 24 for the continuation of trial.
