TEN suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the IGP Tactical Intelligent Unit in connection with the killing of a police Inspector and an Assistant Superintendent, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The two operatives were murdered during the Sabon Daga crisis in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State in January.
It was learnt that security operatives had been trailing the suspects until they were apprehended.
Checks revealed that the suspects, Mohammed Majuha, Umar Garba, Ahmed Bello, Abdul Musa, Abubakar Usman, Hudu Aliyu, Mohammed Sani, Abdul Amadu, Adamu Mohammad and Sani Bello, were also into kidnapping and cattle rustling.
It was gathered that the bandits collaborated with syndicates from neighbouring states to carry out their nefarious activities in Niger State.
One of the suspects, Majuha told Northern City News that the AK47 he used in robberies was given to him by a vigilance group in Zamfara, adding that he had been involved in crime for over five years.
Majuha said he could not state exactly what led him to crime.
“At times, I ask myself why I am into this mess that has ruined my life,” he said, adding that he had just served a jail term before he got involved in the killing of the security operatives.
“I have just served two years jail term after which I was again involved in Sabon Daga crisis in Bosso council that took the lives of the policeman and the civil defence officer; I even collected his gun,” he confessed.
Another suspect, Bello from Kataeregi in Katcha Local Government Area of the state confessed that he stole 73 cows belonging to Fulani herdsmen.
“I bought my AK47 for N300,000 from one Alhaji in the same area and for the past three years I have been robbing with it,” he claimed.
Asked whether he regretted being an armed robber, Bello retorted, “I have no regrets, because I have used it to help a lot of people; let the law take its course; after all, I committed the offence.”
The Niger State police spokesman, Bala Elkana said the suspects were arrested in Lambata Gurara, Lapai and Katcha Local Government Areas of the state.
He explained that some of the suspects were not from Niger State, adding that the police had recovered the gun of the slain NSCDC officer.
Other weapons recovered include one AK47, 7 rounds of ammunition, one locally made pistol.
