Roy Moore Actually Said America Was Last 'Great' When It Had Human Slavery
Thanks to Twitter, horrific statements Republican Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore made about slavery during a rally are receiving renewed attention.
His comments were initially reported in September, but former Obama appointee Eric Columbus tweeted about the comments on Thursday.
Moore was asked at his rally when America was last "great." His answer was that America last achieved greatness during the era of slavery.
“I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another…. Our families were strong, our country had a direction," he said to a black questioner.
The LA Times reports that Moore referred to Native Americans as "reds" and Asian Americans as "yellows" at the same event. He also spoke of “the awful calamity of abortion and sodomy and perverse behavior and murders and shootings and road rage.”
Moore is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, along with numerous other sexual misconduct allegations.
