Android 8.1 Oreo update roundup: factory images are here
Update (11/27): This article has been updated with download links for the second Android 8.1 Developer Preview.
Right on schedule, Google has released the second Android 8.1 Developer Preview for its current Pixel and Nexus devices.
The consumer-ready version of 8.1 isn’t slated to land until December, but this second preview should be a pretty big step up in terms of stability. Google says these are “near-final system images for final testing”, so you should have a much more stable experience than before.
So far Google has released factory images for this new preview, but we’re still waiting on OTAs. Coming in a build number OPP6.171019.012, the new images are compatible with the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X.
Factory images can be found below, and we’ll update this article when OTAs are released.

If you’ve never flashed a factory image manually, we suggest proceeding with caution. It’s easy to mess things up, so be sure to check out our guide for instructions on how to install Android 8.1 Oreo on your device. Alternatively, if you aren’t a fan of sideloading updates, the easiest way to get the latest 8.1 preview is by signing up for the Android Beta Program. You might have to wait a day or two to receive the update this way, but it’s much easier (and safer) than sideloading.
