Seth Meyers Wants to Make Sure You Know This Billionaire Family Who Bought Trump Wants to Take Over the GOP
Billionaire hedge-funder Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah are perhaps the most influential donors to the extremist strain of the Republican Party that includes President Donald Trump.
But most people don't know anything about them. NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers is here to fix that.
“The Mercers initially supported Ted Cruz, then, after realizing they were they were literally the only two people on earth who liked him, threw their money behind Trump. And they’ve been influencing the White House ever since,” Meyers explained.
He highlighted that “with Trump in the White House, it seems the Mercers are feeling more emboldened than ever. But their targets aren’t Democrats like Hillary Clinton this time. It’s establishment Republicans."
Meyers traced the donations of the Mercers to show that their ultimate goal is to reshape the Republican Party into a hard-right fringe party.
