Fox News Host Rob Schmitt Refers to Las Vegas Shooter as 'Gentleman'

The network's coverage has been as tasteless as expected.

Fox News continues to use its coverage of the Las Vegas mass shooting as an opportunity to oppose gun control.

Former Milwaukee County sheriff David Clark appeared on Fox and Friends Tuesday to propagate his usual talking points about the Second Amendment.

“I want to caution people about overreacting. I say people, I’m talking about politicians. I’m hearing it already, ‘We need more gun control.’ No, we don’t," Clark said. "Look, we need to do something, but we need to do something reasonable. We need to do something that’s achievable.”

Clark, whose time as sheriff was marked by inmate abuse scandals, can be expected to downplay mass violence. But the shocking part of the exchange came courtesy of host Rob Schmitt. In trying to suggest gun control is ineffective, he used an interesting choice of words to describe the shooter.

“[T]he firearms this gentleman owns were legal, there were 23 found in the hotel room, another 19 at his home and that is what we know so far,” he said.

That's right: "gentleman."
