Every detail you need to remember before diving into the final season of 'Scandal'
ABC
After six seasons of addicting drama, Shonda Rhimes' hit show "Scandal" is returning for its seventh and final season.
The last season of the ABC hit ended with a two-hour finale full of twists for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). Fitz is no longer president, Mellie was sworn in, and Olivia is full of a power she's never had before.
Here's what you need to remember before the show airs Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
Mellie Grant was elected and sworn in as president.
After a tumultuous election process, Mellie was finally sworn in as president of the United States. Olivia and her team feared that Maya, Olivia's mother, was going to kill Mellie during the inauguration, but no one died and Mellie became the first woman in the Oval Office with Luna Vargas as her vice president.
Maya was bankrolled by someone else to kill Frankie Vargas, and as she tried to kill the person who hired her, she ended up shot and hospitalized.
Maya managed to escape from Olivia and her team by digging out her tracker and arrived at the inauguration ready to take down the person who had paid her to kill Frankie. Rowan, her ex-husband and Olivia's father, shot her before she could do anything.
Fitz's term as president came to an end, so he boarded a helicopter bound for Vermont to run his foundation.
But before he could leave, Olivia ran after him and the two locked lips in front of gathered reporters. After seasons of back-and-forth romance, Fitz and Olivia's relationship was left at another confusing juncture. They hooked up earlier in the finale and this kiss was passionate, but it also seemed final.
With Fitz in Vermont and Olivia in DC, who knows exactly what this means for these two lovers.
