Pennsylvania Volunteer Fire Chief Calls Steelers Coach the N-Word After NFL Team's Anthem Protest
Paul Smith, chief of a volunteer fire station in Pennsylvania, posted to Facebook that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was on "the list of no-good n*****s" after the team declined to appear on the field for the national anthem.
The township manager swiftly informed the press that Tomlin would no longer be serving in his role at the fire department. The board of supervisors for the township also released a public statement.
“The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors is deeply disturbed by the comments made by Volunteer Chief Smith, and in no way, shape or form condone his comments," the statement reads. "In that the volunteer fire departments are independent entities, the board suggests contacting the president of the Muse Fire Department regarding any further comment or action.”
Numerous residents expressed condemnation for the racist posting to local media. Smith said that he "regrets" and is "embarrassed" by his Facebook hate speech.
