Trump to Scrap Obama-Era Dreamers Program 'as Early as Tomorrow': Report

The decision leaves nearly 800,000 Americans at risk of deportation.

President Donald Trump could announce his plans to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program “as early as tomorrow”, Fox News reports.

As The Hill notes, DACA granted work permits and deferred deportation for nearly 800,000 undocumented people who arrived in the United States as children.

Ten conservative state attorney generals intend to challenge DACA next week, and both Trump and his chief of staff John Kelly expressed a belief that it will not hold up in court.

Of the roughly 788,000 Dreamers (a term that refers to the failed DREAM Act that would have provided more legal protections for undocumented immigrants who arrived as children), 72 percent were reportedly in higher education, and 90 percent have jobs.

The Center for American Progress has estimated that the U.S. “would lose about $460 billion in GDP over the next 10 years without DACA.”
