Google Camera version 4.4 update introduces selfie flash, double-tap to zoom
Google Camera v4.4 is now rolling out in the Google Play Store. The latest version carries with it some lightweight, but somewhat useful, new additions, including the ability to double tap the display to zoom in, and a flash for the front-facing camera.
The selfie flash, of course, manifests itself as a screen flash, whereby the display becomes a flat cream/beige color before a photo is taken to create a light source. The results of this no doubt won’t be as good as if you were using a dedicated LED flash instead, but it could help out when you’re in low light and probably should have been included sooner.
The double-tap to zoom function, meanwhile, is a simple gesture that will zoom the camera to 50%, and then zoom it all the way out again, when you double-tap on the display. Not a groundbreaking addition but it’s simple and acts as a quick alternative to using the zoom slider.
Finally, Google has also implemented a dedicated button for switching between taking photos and recording videos, rather than the previous sliding toggle.
