ICPC Arraigns Whistle-Blower For Providing False Information On Ex-VP, Sambo

One Abubakar Sani Chindo has been arraigned before a Kaduna State High Court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly providing false and misleading information to the commission that ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo stashed huge sums of money in his house.

The anti-corruption body said this in a statement by its Spokesperson, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, on Thursday, July 13.

According to the two charges filed before Justice M. T. Aliyu, the ICPC accused Chindo of misleading the commission as a whistle-blower, an action that contravenes Sections 64 (3) and 25 (a,b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under the same sections.

Police, DSS, ICPC Raid Namadi Sambo’s Kaduna Residence

According to the anti-graft agency, the information provided by the whistle-blower had led to the unwarranted raid of the residence of the ex-Vice President located at Alimi Road, Kaduna.

The accused, who appeared in court without a defence counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him but prayed Justice Aliyu to grant him bail.

The trial judge refused his bail application noting that the accused needed a lawyer to perfect his bail conditions, and therefore remanded him in prison custody to perfect the conditions.
