Always engage Nigerians on policy formulation, NACOMYO advises govt
THE National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has emphasised the need for the government and private establishments to imbibe the principle of consultation with stakeholders in policy formulation, implementation and evaluation to avoid jeopardising set goals.
In a release by its national president, Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, NACOMYO stressed that “planning with the people” rather than “for the people” would build confidence, trust and acceptability in the pursuit of national goal as it would remove suspicion, mistrust and scepticism and prevent conflict.
NACOMYO, in the meantime, advised the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to embrace advocacy and dialogue in reconciling its differences with Federal Ministry of Education in order to prevent heating up the polity.
It also advised similar groups to seek clarifications over agitations from concerned agencies in tandem with convention.
The group equally enjoined government agencies to ensure equity, justice, transparency, accountability and fair play in delivering their mandates, describing the virtues as critical to achieving good governance and harmonious living.
The apex body of Muslim youth organisations appealed to religious organisations to be “problem solvers” and not “problem causers” and cautioned all religious and political groups against sensationalising issues to perverse the country’s corporate existence.
Meanwhile, NACOMYO said it welcomed the idea to revert Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge as compulsory subjects, stating that compulsory religious education from elementary to tertiary level remained an antidote to youthful restiveness.
While being in concord with the “Ministerial Retreat on Education” approved by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, who presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to address the supposedly decay in the sector, NACOMYO called for adequate budgetary provision for the sector.
This, according to the body, is critical to the quest for an ideal standard and should be embraced by the three tiers of government.
