Google’s Santa Tracker adds new Santa Snap game, teases world’s largest virtual snowball fight

Google’s Santa Tracker app is arguably the best in its genre. The app tracks Santa’s movements on Christmas Eve and it even keeps count of how many presents the big man in red delivers along with giving you fun facts about holiday traditions in other regions. Until then, the app contains a bunch of fun little mini-games and other activities. Google updated the app for the 2017 holiday season already with some new features and video stuff. It appears that they aren’t done with the game quite yet.

The biggest addition is Santa Snap. This fun little activity has the player flying an elf around Google Maps with a jetpack and taking selfies with various landmarks. You use the phone’s accelerometer to move the camera around for the perfect angle. It’s actually a bit reminiscent of Verne: The Himalayas, an older Google game with similar mechanics. The game is only available on the Android version of the app. Everything else should still work fine on iOS, though!

This is all, of course, in addition to the variety of holiday themed activities within the app. New games and activities unlock every day players visit Santa’s Village leading up to the big night where the app will track Santa with the enthusiasm that it has every year. Google’s blog post also teases something about the world’s biggest virtual snowball fight (potentially). We’ll let you know more about that once we find out what they’re talking about.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that this year’s update also came with Google Assistant support. You can ask Google Assistant where Santa is and it should let you know. Google also has some additional resources for parents and teachers as well. It’s available in the Google Play Store free of charge and those who celebrate the holidays should definitely have this one in their app drawer.
