Xiaomi’s mega-popular Redmi Note 4 receives permanent price cut in India

The Redmi Note 4 has been a runaway success for Xiaomi in the Indian market. At launch, the Chinese OEM claimed it sold one million of the devices smartphones in the region in just 45 days. Three months ago that figure reportedly reached a whopping 5 million.

Now, the “fastest selling smartphone in India” will enjoy a small, but permanent price drop. The announcement was made by Xiaomi’s Managing Director in India, Manu Kumar Jain, who excited shared the news on Twitter.

The highest-spec version of the record-breaking smartphone will now cost Rs.11,999, down from Rs.12,999. This model comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage (expandable up to 128 GB).

The 3 GB/32 GB variant has also dropped from Rs.10,999 to Rs.9,999. That’s the same price Xiaomi was previously asking for the 2 GB/32 GB model, though the entry-level model has been unavailable for a while and is now almost certain to be discontinued.

As a quick refresher on the rest of the phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset. Other notable features include its 13 MP primary camera and 4,100 mAh battery. The device can also be updated to Android Nougat, as well as the latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android ROM, MIUI 9.

Xiaomi recently announced that it hit an overall company sales record, shipping over 10 million smartphones in September alone. Part of that success has been attributed to its low-cost, high-value propositions – an approach that has proved particularly successful in India where it held the second largest market share (22 percent), just behind Samsung (23 percent), in Q3 2017.
