White House Lawyers Wanted Kushner Out Amid Russia Probe
A group of White House lawyers unsuccessfully lobbied to have Jared Kushner step down as the probe into the possible connections between the campaign of President Donald Trump and Russia continued, according to both the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.
Current White House lawyer Ty Cobb claims that Kushner is the victim of sabatoge from former staffers. Cobb did not try to dispute the allegations and confirmed elements of the reporting.
“All clandestine efforts to undermine him never gained traction," Cobb said of the push to remove Kushner.
The president's son-in-law had numerous interactions with Russian officials during the 2016 campaign and transition period.
Kushner notably failed to disclose his presence at the infamous meeting between Don Jr. with a Russian lawyer intending to provide harmful information about Hillary Clinton.
The discussion of removing Kushner over the liability he poses to the Trump administration occured before what the Post describes as a "shake-up" of the White House legal team in July.
