President Trump's campaign rally in Phoenix last month cost the city more than $450,000, according to a report.
Trump delivered a wide-ranging, 76-minute long speech at a campaign rally at the Phoenix Convention Center in August, despite calls from Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton for the president cancel the event.
Trump's visit to the city cost $450,000 in overtime costs, most of which were incurred by the Phoenix Police Department, according to the Arizona Republic.
"We do what it takes to protect the president of the United States when he visits Phoenix," Stanton told the Arizona Republic.
In total, the police department incurred $336,887 in expenses. The city's fire department incurred $60,483 in costs, followed by the Street Transportation Department, which incurred $49,767 in costs. The water services department and public works department incurred $4,481 and $2,928 in costs, respectively.
Trump's reelection campaign shelled out roughly $50,000 for the space in the convention center and security inside the venue, but the city was responsible for additional costs.
The president's speech at the Aug. 22 rally in Phoenix touched on a wide range of topics, including criticisms of the media, attacks on sitting Republican senators, and a hint he would pardon former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio, which Trump followed through on several days later.
There was an increased police presence outside the convention center as a crowd protested during the day and thousands lined up to get into Trump's rally. After the president's speech ended, the protests turned violent, and police used pepper spray after some in the crowd threw rocks and bottles at officers.
