The INSIDER Summary:
- HBO has confirmed the final directors for "Game of Thrones" season eight.
- David Nutter, Miguel Sapochnik, and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will direct the last six episodes.
- No order has been set yet for their episodes, but sources tell INSIDER it is likely Benioff and Weiss themselves will direct the series finale.
The eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" has a killer director's lineup that should get any longtime fan pumped. HBO confirmed with INSIDER that the final six episodes will be helmed by David Nutter, Miguel Sapochnik, and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Though we don't know details of the episode order or length, let alone when the season will air, a source tells INSIDER that Benioff and Weiss themselves will likely direct the final episode of the series.
Miguel Sapochnik is the notable director behind three of the series' most acclaimed episodes: "Hardhome," "Battle of the Bastards," and season six finale "The Winds of Winter."
Sapochnik was unable to return for season seven due to scheduling conflicts, so fans should be thrilled to see he's back for the final installment of the series.

David Nutter is another noted director on "Game of Thrones." His most well-known episodes are season three's devastating Red Wedding chapter, "The Rains of Castamere," and the finale of season five, "Mother's Mercy."
As for Benioff and Weiss, they've each been separately credited for directing "Game of Thrones" episodes. Weiss was director for the season four premiere "Two Swords," while Benioff was credited for season three's "Walk of Punishment."
According to Entertainment Weekly, the singular director's credits for Benioff and Weiss were due to the director's guild rules which "permit only one director can be credited for an episode of television." As EW reported, "it's unclear how this one will sort out" when it comes to their shared directing of the finale.
