Steve Bannon Levels Deranged Attack on Catholic Church for Its Stance on Immigrant Rights

Charlie Rose was taken aback during his interview with the former Trump adviser.

In an excerpt from an upcoming 60 Minutes interview, former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon attacked the Catholic Church for its stance on immigrant rights.

“The Catholic Church has been terrible about this,” Bannon said about its stance on immigration. “To come to grips with the problems in the church, they need illegal aliens, they need illegal aliens to fill the churches… They have an economic interest in unlimited immigration, unlimited illegal immigration.”

CBS’s Charlie Rose pointed out that this seemed to be an awfully harsh thing to say about the Catholic Church.

“As much as I respect Cardinal Dolan and the bishops on doctrine, this is not doctrine,” Bannon said. “This is not doctrine at all. I totally respect the pope and I totally respect the Catholic bishops and cardinals on doctrine. This is not about doctrine. This is about the sovereignty of a nation. And in that regard, they’re just another guy with an opinion.”

Bannon also said that many people in his ideological circle were “not happy” with Trump’s declaration that he would “revisit” the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program if Congress was unable to reach a deal to preserve it.
