Rachel Maddow Explains How Mike Pence's Lies Are Endangering Him in the Russia Investigation

The vice president keeps making false statements.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow explained how special counselor Robert Mueller's investigation into the alleged ties between President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia may end up entagling Vice President Mike Pence.

The vice president keeps lying about verifiable facts.

“Mike Pence did bluntly asserted multiple times that there had been no contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians during the campaign,” Maddow reminded her audience. “That was false."

She then rattled off a list of additional untrue statemants from Pence.

"Mike Pence’s bluntly asserted that Trump national security adviser Mike Flynn had never talked to the Russians about sanctions. That was false," she said. "Mike Pence bluntly asserted that he had no idea Mike Flynn had foreign business ties, even though Pence was running the transition when the transition was notified multiple times in writing and in person by Flynn’s lawyers that yeah, Flynn had foreign business ties.”

The lies don't end there. Pence also claimed that Trump fired former FBI director James Comey based on a Justice Department recommendation. We now know that Pence had to be aware his statement was false, because he was present when Trump reportedly read the draft letter with the real reason out loud.

Maddow said she could compile "quite a list" of Pence falsehoods with a few extra days.
