NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Suing Trump Administration Over DACA

A multistate coalition of AGs are fighting to protect the rights of Dreamers.

Ten conservative state attorney generals prompted President Donald Trump to end DACA on Tuesday. A little over a day later, after a new lawsuit was filed by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, it appear their progressive counterparts just might bring DACA back.

While his anti-immigrant rhetoric may still play well among the most loyal Trump fans, Trump faced extensive pushback from both activists and congressional leaders following the announcement that the program was ending. Not even punting the announcement to Jeff Sessions reduced the blow. Taking advantage of this momentum, Eric Schneiderman is announcing the multi-state lawsuit in a press conference at 2:15pm Wednesday, which will be livestreamed on his Facebook page.

The lawsuit will join another, filed by advocacy organization Make the Road New York and the National Immigration Law Center, on behalf of Martín Batalla Vidal, a Mexican-born college student who came to the United States when he was seven and is a DACA recipient. They asked a federal judge in Brooklyn to amend a current lawsuit to address Tuesday's change.
