South Carolina Man Insists Confederate Flag Isn't Racist, Promptly Slurs Martin Luther King, Jr.
It's probably best not to use racist slurs when arguing that Confederate flags aren't racist. But that's just what one South Carolina man did Thursday.
Russell Walker filed a lawsuit demanding that Confederate flags be restored to the primary courthouse in his town. He spoke to Spectrum News Charlotte reporter Yoojin Cho about his stance, and the interview quickly flew off the rails.
“I don’t believe it’s a symbol of racism, I don’t believe it’s a symbol of slavery,” Walker said of the flag. Moments later, he added, “Hey, I go down the street, I see Martin Luther Coon… uh, I shouldn’t have said that… Martin Luther King."
A judge tossed Walker's case because he couldn't prove he'd suffered any personal harm from the flags' removal.
