One Dead, Several Injured After Car Plows Down Counter-Protesters at White Supremacist Rally

At least one person has died after a car drove into a group of pedestrians participating in a counter-protest at a white supremacist rally on Saturday (August 12) in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Mike Signer, the Mayor of Charlottesville, tweeted the news that someone died shortly after the incident.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will–go home,” Signer wrote.

Several videos emerged on Twitter right after the incident and it appeared to show the car intentionally driving into a group of counter-protesters until it rammed into another car. The car then sped away in reverse while its front bumper was swinging on the ground.

A state of emergency was declared hours earlier and President Trump spoke out to condemn “hate,” though his tweets were criticized by many for not mentioning the actual incident.

We send our thoughts and condolences to those affected by this terrible incident.
