More Chromebooks get Google Play, Night Light hits Chrome OS dev channel

Back in January, Google announced that all Chromebooks launched in 2017 and onwards will support Android apps. A few months ago, a total of 16 new Chromebook models received access to the Play Store but only in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.

Now, four models have gained support for Android apps on the stable version of the operating system. These are the Asus Chromebook Flip C302, Dell Chromebook 3189, Lenovo Chromebook N22, and Lenovo IdeaPad N42 Chromebook. It’s likely that more Chromebooks will get access to the Play Store on the stable channel soon, although there’s no word on which ones and when.

Bringing Android apps to Chromebooks is a win-win situation. They make the devices a lot more interesting to users, which in turn could help manufacturers increase sales and developers to expand the availability of their apps.

In other Chromebook related news, Night Light mode is now available for those on the Dev channel. In case you’re not familiar, the feature allows you to remove the blue light from your screen, which can cause eyestrain. You have the option of adjusting the color temperature as well as schedule the time of day when the feature must be turned on and off. You can check out what this looks like in real life in the image below.
