Matt LeBlanc Was Offered This Role on 'Modern Family,' But Turned It Down

Matt LeBlanc could have played Phil Dunphy in Modern Family, the role made famous by Ty Burrell!

The 50-year-old star told USA Today the pilot script “came across my desk with an offer to play Ty Burrell’s role” years ago.

“I remember reading it thinking, this is a really good script, (but) I’m not the guy for this. I’d be doing the project an injustice to take this. I know what I can do, I know what I can’t do. Plus, I’m having too much fun laying on the couch,” Matt said.

Ty was obviously a great choice for the role – as he does an amazing job! He won two Emmys for his work on the show (and is nominated this year as well).
