Huawei will show off its AI efforts at IFA on September 2
Huawei might be keeping the rumored Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro under wraps, but the company has done the complete opposite regarding its efforts in the realm of artificial intelligence. However, it appears that Huawei is done talking up AI and ready to show what it has to offer during IFA Berlin, Europe’s largest technology trade show.
Is the future intelligent?

The event could be Huawei’s opportunity to show off its self-described “superphone,” which the company talked up during 2016’s World Internet Conference in China. At the event, Huawei CEO Richard Yu outlined his concept of this so-called “superphone,” which the executive described as a “double of you” that will “proactively interact with the physical world.”
Paving the way toward Yu’s superphone vision is Huawei’s application processor that combines CPU (central processing unit), GPU (graphics processing unit), and AI functions. According to Yu, the processor would debut in the second half of 2017, though the actual CPU and GPU are still unknowns at this point. Regardless, Huawei’s EMUI Android skin already has some deep machine learning and “smart computing” capabilities, so the company looks to use the AI-focused chipset as a way to bring hardware into the mix.
Whether that hardware is the Mate 10 remains to be seen, though we expect the phone to be announced during a separate October 10 event and not during IFA 2017. Even so, we will still pay close attention to what Huawei has to say on September 2 at 2:00pm CEST during IFA, since it will dictate the company’s efforts moving forward.
