We won’t leave PDP, says Sheriff’s group in Ekiti
Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado Ekiti
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to the sacked National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, have vowed to remain and work for the party in the state.
They denied moving to Mega Party of Nigeria, saying they would continue to work ahead of the 2018 governorship election while awaiting the Court of Appeal, Ado Ekiti decision on the factions in the state.
They stated this at a meeting held under the aegis of PDP Elders Forum and hosted by the first state party chairman, Chief Clement Awoyelu.
Some personalities who attended the meeting included a former House of Representatives member, Mrs. Titilayo Akindahunsi; a former PDP state Secretary, Dr. Tope Aluko; a former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Dare Bejide; a factional PDP state Chairman, Chief William Ajayi; Mr. Toyin Obayemi; Dr. Kunle Folayan and Elder Martins Ibikunle, among others.
There are two State executives Committees in the state. One led by Gboyega Oguntuase, the faction loyal to Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and another led by William Ajayi, which is loyal to Sheriff.
The Supreme Court recently declared Makarfi as the authentic National Chairman of the party. The Court of Appeal, Ado Ekiti, is expected to deliver judgement in the leadership crisis in the state in October.
Speaking with reporters at the end of the meeting attended mainly by PDP members loyal to Sheriff, Awoyelu said the Forum was formed to refocus, reshape and reposition the party as an election-winning platform.
Aluko described members of the group as “formidable individuals” who had won various elections under the umbrella of the party, saying affirmation of Senator Ahmed Makarfi by the Supreme Court was a new beginning.
“We are united and we will deliver Ekiti for PDP again in 2018.”
“We urge our members to remain in the party irrespective of whatever circumstance. It is not true that some of our members have defected to Mega Party of Nigeria,” Bejide added.
Ajayi assured leaders present in the meeting of the decision of his executive to reposition the party for the 2018 Governorship election.
