Omawunmi comes hard at record labels who discriminate against married women (Watch)
Omawumi thinks it is unfair for record labels to discriminate against women on grounds that careers are often cut short following marriage.
Speaking with HipTV in a recent interview, the mum of two who recently dropped her third studio album ‘Timeless’, cited her career as an example and urged record labels to encourage female artists.
She said:
“That’s woman discrimination, “Well, in my opinion, I don’t think women’s career are usually cut short. Some people thought that of me because I got married and I had kids.”
“I don’t think that’s fair. I think passion trumps it all. If you find somebody that has passion for the work, encourage the person. Sign the person and you will make you money.”
The ‘If You Ask Me’ singer took a break from the spotlight to give birth to her son, causing fans to worry about her long absence from the spotlight. However, she returned in 2015 with her fantastic cover of Adele’s global hit song ‘Hello’, but it would take two most years before her third studio album arrived.
Now Omawumi calls out record labels for discriminating against women, and many of her fans agree with her; women should not be put down they chose to get married.
