Jessica Williams Says It's a 'Great Time' to Be an Actor of Color
Jessica Williams is enjoying a lot of success these days with the release of her new Netflix movie The Incredible Jessica James and she’s opening up about it being a great time for actors of color.
The 27-year-old actress and comedian, who got her start on The Daily Show, credits Netflix for shaping stories about people of color through shows like Orange Is the New Black and Master of None.
“I think it’s a difficult time in some ways to be a person of color, and I think the same for actors of color, but I also think it’s a great a time,” Jessica told ABC News. “Because I think now … there’s so much more room, I think, for us to be seen, and there’s room for us to create our own stories.”
“It’s like so many black actresses that came before me and my generation,” Jessica said while paying homage to those who came before her and paved the way. “They came before and they did not necessarily have this opportunity that I feel like I have now, and so I’m really grateful for that, and I really do think it’s a really great time to be an actress that is black, in a way.”
