Group inaugurates Lamido presidential campaign in Kogi
Gbenga Odogun, Lokoja
Ahead of the 2019 presidential election, the Sule Lamido Presidential Campaign Organisation was on Tuesday inaugurated in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
This is coming a week after the Supreme Court confirmed Alhaji Ahmed Markafi as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party following a prolonged leadership tussle that had rocked the party since it lost the presidential election in 2015.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting on Tuesday, the SLPCO Coordinator, Isah Ameh, described Lamido as a one-time distinguished lawmaker, a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a former governor of Jigawa State.
Ameh said as governor, “Lamido turned Jigawa State to a mini London, where good governance and development reigned.”
The coordinator said he was supporting Lamido because the former governor was capable of replicating his performance in Jigawa if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.
Ameh said, “Dr. Sule Lamido’s name is synonymous with Nigeria’s democratic struggle owing to the fact that he has been participating in politics from the FirstRepublic till date and has never taken part in any military government in Nigeria.”
Also speaking on the occasion, the Convener and Financier of the project, Paul Gowon, said his belief in Lamido stemmed from his exemplary performance as the governor of Jigawa State and his firm belief that he would do more if given a bigger platform to operate.
“Dr. Sule Lamido’s opportunity did not come by happenstance, he worked assiduously into peoples’ mind by his style of governance which places emphasis on the welfare of the poor, the Talakawas,” he said.
