Google Allo’s web version might arrive sooner than later

android apps weeklyGoogle Allo has proven to be a capable messaging app, but Google has yet to update it with proper text messaging integration. Even though that has not changed with Allo’s latest update, Google did throw in additional features and a few hints of what is in store.

In terms of new features, Google visually adjusted Allo’s image editor to allow users to slap stickers on their images. Folks can also scrub through any audio they receive, as well as play around with Allo’s notification channels, the latter of which is supported if your device runs Android O.

Finally, a promotional tagline will accompany images that you share from Allo, though it appears as if you can just delete the tagline before sharing.

The highlight features of the update, however, only exist in code – a web client and message translation. Starting with the former, the code reveals that you will be able to revoke access for other devices, whether they be your own or someone else’s. Furthermore, it looks as if you can use QR codes to speed up the sign-in process on devices that are not logged into your Google account.

As for message translation, it looks as if you will need to long-press a message and select the Translate option. In other words, Allo will not automatically translate messages, so keep that in mind if you wish to take advantage of it.

Smaller features also discovered in code include camera effects for pictures you want to send others when chatting and a data usage tracker to keep tabs on how much data Allo eats up.

None of these four features have been officially introduced, and though there are no guarantees they will see the surface, odds are they will be implemented at some point in the future. As for the more official features, they are available in Allo’s latest update, which should be available for you either now or sometime soon.
