Gent battle to keep Eagles defender from Crocodiles

Belgian Jupiler League giants KAA Gent are fighting tooth and nail to keep Super Eagles centre-back William Troost-Ekong at their 20,000-capacity Ghelamco Arena next season.
Reports in Turkey on Wednesday claimed that Super Lig club Bursaspor had agreed person al terms with Troost-Ekong for a summer switch to the Timsah Arena.
Frenchman Paul Le Guen, who was appointed as the new manager of the Green Crocodiles last month, is keen to shore up his defence and believes the 23-year-old Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist ticks all the boxes.
Dutch-born Troost-Ekong returned to Gent last summer after ending his season-long loan at Norwegian outfit FK Haugesund on a high note.
The defender, who played at youth level in England for Tottenham from 2011 to 2013, was loaned by Gent to Haugesund immediately after signing for them in July 2015.
But the former Groningen player failed to secure a regular starting role at Gent, as he was restricted to just seven appearances for the Buffalos last season.
The influential Turkish outlet Bursa confirmed on Wednesday that the Crocodiles would sign the Nigerian “in the coming days”.
However, VoetbalNieuwsbe reported that Gent manager Michel Louwagie had moved to block Troost-Ekong’s exit.
According to reports, Louwagie has the Nigeria stalwart in his plans for next season and he is doing everything possible to frustrate the move.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho will be included in Manchester City’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States despite reports he might depart from the Etihad.
Iheanacho is reportedly on the radar of West Ham United and Leicester as Pep Guardiola plans for a massive clear-out as City.
The former Premier League champions have however dropped England goalkeeper Joe Hart from their pre-season squad. Copyright PUNCH.
