Corpse of missing UNIOSUN student found near Alfa’s house

Femi Makinde, Osogbo

The corpse of Oluwafemi Shonibare, a 400-level student of Microbiology Department of the Osun State University, who went missing nine days ago, has been found inside a bush near one Alfa’s house.

Students living on Jafaria Street told our correspondent that the Alfa, who was arrested in connection with the boy’s disappearance, took the police to where the decomposing corpse was dumped at the back of his house.

Our correspondent, who visited the bush, saw the spot where the boy’s corpse was dumped.

Angered by the incessant missing of students in the vicinity, some of the residents set the Alfa’s house on fire. They also vandalised  a mosque opposite the house.

The Dean, Student Affairs, UNIOSUN, Dr Adebimpe Adigun, who was at the scene, broke down in tears.

Some of the students, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said “many weird items” were found inside the house.

One of the students, who entered into the house of the suspect before it was razed, said he saw female underwear, used sanitary pads, and sprinkles of blood inside a room.

Another student said one of the missing 400-level students of Computer Engineering at UNIOSUN, Robert Akinduro, was living in the same house with Shonibare.

The house is about 50 metres away from the Alfa’s House.

The other 400-level student, who also got missing since September 5, 2016, Samuel Eke, was living about four streets away from the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, told our correspondent on the telephone that he was holding a meeting.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, confirmed the discovery to our correspondent.

The Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the South West, Saheed Afolabi, also confirmed the discovery to our correspondent on the telephone.

Afolabi asked the police to get to the root of the matter, saying cases of missing students had become too frequent at the Oke Baale area of Osogbo.

It will be recalled that Eke and Akinduro, who have been missing for the past 10 months, have not been found.

Another 400 level student at the Ipetu Ijesa Campus of UNIOSUN, Rofiat Adebisi, was kidnapped by a driver last December.

Her corpse was found some days later.

Meanwhile,  the Alfa, a 19-year-old man, Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, and his accomplices, 24-year-old Ibrahim Ayuba and Yusuf Aliu, 18, have confessed that they killed Shonibare.

They were paraded on Tuesday at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo.

The trio said they wanted to use the student for money ritual.

Abdulrofiu said they hit Shonibare with a pestle on the head from the back and later butchered him.

He stated that the deceased head was burnt,  adding that luck eventually ran out on them and they were apprehended by the police.
