Brazilian Police Captures Notorious Drug Kingpin Who Changed His Looks And Evaded Justice For Almost 30yrs

Brazil’s most wanted drug lord – who used plastic surgery to evade capture for almost 30 years – has finally been arrested.

Police stormed the home of Luiz Carlos da Rocha yesterday finding him armed, alongside his wife and young son.Brazen Rocha has amassed a multi-million pound fortune as one of the world’s biggest drug’s barons, importing tonnes of cocaine into Brazil and across the world.

Brazilian police said his organisation was known to be violent, making use of armed escorts, armoured cars, and heavy weapons.

It produced cocaine in Bolivia, Peru and Colombia, before shipping it through an elaborate logistics system to Europe and the United States.

Officers managed to snare the notorious crook – nicknamed “White Head” – after infiltrating his global trafficking gang.

Operation Spectrum – the name given to the sting – seized some £7.6million worth of criminal assets, including farms, other real estate, luxury vehicles and aircraft.

Yet police believe his overall worth is closer to £75million and are seeking to recover the remainder of his assets.

He is being held on convictions handed down by the Federal Court that amount to more than 50 years in prison after being caught following a lengthy joint operation between Federal Police and Interpol in South America.

Luiz was found living as agricultural worker Vitor Luiz de Moraes in a rural farming community of just 80,000 people, according to federal officer Elvis Secco.

Secco told UOL Daily News : “He was the number one trafficker on our wanted list.

“He had a normal social life, he was not worried about being arrested, he knew he would not be recognized – he was about 20 years younger than the 60 or so he is.

“He could detect any suspected police move that might threaten him.”

But Rocha was caught after police managed to infiltrate his gang.

And despite having had numerous procedures over the years, they managed to link the ‘two men’ together – concluding they were the same person.

In addition, Rocha’s right-hand-man Wilson Roncarati was also arrested in Londrina, in the north of Paraná, Brazil.

They will be tried later this year on charges of international drug trafficking, money laundering, association for trafficking, falsification of public and private documents and criminal organization, according to police.

Police discovered the drug gang imported cocaine in small planes from Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, using Venezuelan airspace.

They then flew them to farms in Brazil, on the border between the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.

The load was then placed in trucks and carts and sent to Ṣo Paulo for distribution to criminal factions in Ṣo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro Рthen exported to Europe or the United States.

The Federal Police will also work with the Paraguayan police to search several farms in the Paraguay, where he ran part of his criminal operations.
