NDLEA arrests 151 suspects in Kogi
The state commandant of the agency, Alhaji Idris Bello, disclosed this in Lokoja, the state capital at a programme to commemorate the 2017 United Nations Drug Day with the theme “Listen First”.
He explained that the suspects were arrested at various locations across the state between January and June this year.
The NDLEA state commandant added that six of the suspects were female.
Bello stated that the command seized a total of 3498.035kg of Cannabis Sativa popularly called Indian hemp and other psychotropic substance such as, Tramadol, Diazepam, Rohypnol and Codeine in the period in review.
Out of the total suspects arrested, the commandant said 12 had been sentenced to various terms in prison, 10 have their cases pending at the Federal High Court, 72 released for want of evidence, while 57 were counseled under the short intervention programme.
He said, ” Five vehicles and trucks were impounded during this period, while four drug dependent persons including one female were rehabilitated”.
Bello however cautioned motorists to be mindful of the luggage they convey in their vehicles.
“Our men are always on the road ready to apprehend and impound any vehicle conveying drugs. Landlords and house owners should be Vigilant so as not to lease out their properties to drug dealers,” he said.
